I love podcasts. Podcasts are like listening to a radio station tailored exactly to your tastes. Whether you want to laugh, be moved or learn something new there’s a podcast out there for you.

For this edition I’m going to say a few words about ‘WTF with Marc Maron’. Maron is a comedian, though not one I’d heard of (Aside from his small role in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous). In his show, recorded at his home, he interviews comedians or rather it seems that sometimes he just sits back and lets them talk. More often than not what Maron gets is something much more than just a fluff piece. His subjects are often very open with Maron and ready to discuss things that would usually seem off topic (The episode with Robin Williams is a great example of this – with Maron pointedly asking Williams about the accusations of joke stealing that has followed Williams around most of his career).

It’s as if Maron is a journalist without ever really realising it. Maybe it’s because Maron is so emotionally open about himself and his own shortcomings that it gives his guests a free pass to just open up about themselves as well. It’s often like eavesdropping on a very private conversation…with swear words.
