How do you follow up one of the biggest cultural phenomenons ever? Wel, it helps that it’s already had one much-maligned sequel, making your job easier. As long as you’re good enough, you’ll always come second. But audiences in 2016 are different from those in 1998 so sometimes you have to go bigger.

Sometimes these things are good to fill in the gaps in my knowledge and to spend a dreary Saturday* watching something that I wouldn’t normally watch. This one feels more like a Sunday movie, which I can’t really explain other than to say there are some things good for a Saturday night and some things that are good for a Sunday afternoon. Make sense? Good.

So what have we today? Well, it’s back to slasher-town (for some reason) with the largely and perhaps rightly forgotten, SLASHER HIGH.

Well after The Island Of Lost Souls I thought I would carry on the HG Wells theme with a look at another adaptation of his masterworks with The Invisible Man. To be honest this has never been my favourite of the classic Universal horror flicks and I will now attempt to explain my blasphemy.

We’re taking a trip way way back today, back to a Devo song. Wait, no that’s not it. Right yeah we’re going to visit the island of Dr Moreau in the best of all the Moreau films (Though perhaps not the most entertaining if you’ve ever seen the late 90s Marlon Brando version).

You didn’t know I could speak Italian, did you? Well ok, that’s technically not the right title for the movie. Even the translation, Six Women For The Murderer isn’t what it’s often known as. Instead, this is most commonly known as Blood And Black Lace and it was the first in Italy’s most popular export, the Giallo genre.

“No Chance… No Help… No Escape!”
This is another from the bowels of horror-themed YouTube channels so naturally, it’s a bit of good movie/bad movie bingo here, but that’s the fun. So what do we have here? Well, it’s a movie with some pedigree actually. More monster movie than slasher movie* this also has the distinction of starring Jack Palance and Martin Landau. True, one is more of an acting heavyweight than the other, but it’s already a better calibre of actor than you’d usually get in these things.

I forgot I had covered this one before. It’s what happens sometimes. I remember digging it then and I dig it now. In the whole ‘found-footage’ genre or whatever we want to call it, I always thought that this one was underrated and rarely mentioned.

This is another one of those ‘Have I done this?’ movies where I’m not sure if, in the long and illustrious history of doing this thing, if I’ve already covered something. If I have well it’s alright too late I suppose since I’ve watched it now so I’ll have to write something about it.
